Hey there,
My name is David Tendrich and I'm about to break down for you a few "out of the box" tips for writing sales letters.
When writing a sales letter, here's the most important thing to keep in mind:
YOU'RE MAKING A SALE!
Don't get wrapped up in looking at some sample sales letter and thinking you have to follow a set of pre-ordained "rules". If you know how to sell something in person, then use the same exact style you use in person, and put it into print.
In fact, an awesome strategy is to record some of your in-person sales presentations/pitches. From there you can almost copy word-for-word what you say in a sales pitch. I mean, if it works in person, it works in sales letters. In fact, the downfall of a lot of copywriters is that they never sold anything in person.
If this is you, then before writing sales letters and reading sample sales letter, investigate the art of selling. Read books on salesmanship. Focus just on that, learn the principles inside and out, and then branch into putting it into writing. Sales letters are not very different from selling in person. In fact, if when you sit down to write your sales letters, you can imagine that you're talking to a real person, it'll help.
First off, it gives your writing a very natural, human voice. I'm sure you've come across a sample sales letter or two that talked "at" you, rather than "to" you. It's the same effect as talking to a pushy salesman who doesn't give a damn about you and who you are. They just give their pitch regardless of whether or not you're interested.
When writing a sales letter, take an interest in the person on the other end who's going to read it. Get to know their problems, frustrations, and the solution they'd like to see. Then, give it to them in writing just as you'd say it to them if you were face-to-face. Do this, and your sales letters will rock!
